To Ask Forgiveness of a Creature Spirit is by Benjamin Harjo, Jr., Seminole-Shawnee.
His formal education includes two years at Santa Fe's Institute of American Indian Art and a BFA Degree conferred by Oklahoma State University in 1974.

During a career spanning over 20 years, Harjo has garnered numerous honors and awards including the 1987 Red Earth Grand Award, the 1993 Heard Museum's 34th Annual Featured Artist, the Featured Artist in 1992 for the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian's Annual Aspen Benefit, the Gold Medal Award at the 1990 American Indian Cowboy Artists Wichita Show and the 1990 Woody Crumbo Memorial Award for Excellence in Painting at Santa Fe's Annual Indian Market.
